Tell us a bit about yourself and how you ended up in Tofino
My name is Seb, I’m from California, but I have been hiding in Canada for 6 years now and guiding for 5 of those years. Just three weeks into moving to Canada, I came to Tofino for a surf trip. That’s when I realized a small coastal town was more up my alley than a big city like Vancouver. It was on my radar to move here as soon as I finished University. The second I graduated, I packed my bags I came out here.
Which boat is your favourite in the fleet and why?
Ouu that’s a tough one. I feel like Whiteraven is definitely the most fun boat to drive. It’s super maneuverable and the fastest boat in Tofino… I mean, 600 HP for a little zodiac is crazy.
What is your favourite trip to guide?
The Ultimate Adventure and the Remote Floating Sauna are some of the most fun trips to guide because I can actually hang out and get to know my guests. Both those private tours offer more connection to people from all around the world. It’s so eye-opening to learn about people from different walks of life. The Ultimate Adventure is also fun because it encompasses everything: lots of boat time, whales, bears, crabbing, and the Big Tree Trail.
I also always love a whale tour because whales hold a special place in my heart. A morning bear tour is magic because we always get the best weather in the early mornings. It gets super misty back in the inlet, the sun reflects off the mist creating a beautiful haze, and the water is complete glass.
What is your favourite marine life?
I’m a whale man. I love whales, specifically humpback whales. Grey whales are the ones we see most often around Tofino, but humpbacks are my favourite. They’re a bit less common, so every sighting feels special. They’re incredible animals to watch, their size, the way they move, and you never know when they’re going to put on a show with a breach or a tail slap. Seeing a humpback out on the water is something I never get tired of.
