DRIVING FROM MAINLAND BC (VANCOUVER) USING FERRIES
If you want to bring your vehicle to Vancouver Island and Tofino, you will need to utilize one of the many ferries travelling from the Mainland BC.
Tsawwassen is south of Vancouver near the USA border, and a good option if you are driving up from mainland Washington. You will dock at Swartz Bay, which is 30 minutes north of Victoria. Simply follow the BC-17 highway south, then take exit 7 McKenzie to get onto the Trans Canada Highway/BC-1 and follow the driving directions from Victoria.
This route goes from Tsawwassen to Duke Point, which is just south of Nanaimo. The boat ride is longer, but it will shave off some driving time if you don’t need to route through Victoria.
