Cultural Experience Package
Following its debut success in 2023, Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation and its Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks initiative is pleased to announce the spring 2024 return of its Indigenous tourism experience naaʔuu which means “feast” in Tla-o-qui-aht. And all are invited! This three-hour event will run over multiple Friday and Saturday evenings in May and June at Tin Wis Conference Centre. See dates below:

For many millennia, Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation has been living here and serving as stewards on the environmentally significant west coast of Vancouver Island, generating a wealth of ancestral heritage passed down from one generation to the next. Experience cultural presentations depicting the Nation’s history through song, dance, and traditional carvings coming to life over a delicious dinner.
Throughout this three-hour indigenous tourism event, Tla-0-qui-aht First Nation will share some of the deep history of our homeland and their People. By understanding their history, we can better understand our relationship to this place and our responsibilities to the future.
The Menu
Enjoy a wholesome meal of fresh ingredients, locally sourced from land and sea.
The naaʔuu menu includes:
- Breads: Fry bread, Bannock with berry preserves
- Salmon: BBQ with cedar plank
- Halibut: baked with seasoning
- Potato: Roasted potato with herbs
- Vegetable: seasonal vegetables
- Gathered greens: Collection of foraged greens, vegetables, roasted
- Mussels and or clams : Steamed with buttery garlic steamed clams
- Steamed crabs with lemon and butter garlic dip
- Venison Stew : Harvest roots
- Herring roe : steamed and accompanied with dipping sauces
- Nettle tea
